Vacancy Announcement: Digital Comms Assistant – Partnerships Unit, Samuel Hall

Samuel Hall is seeking a highly motivated individual to join its team for a full-time position as a Digital Communications Assistant, reporting to the Advocacy and Stories Officer. They will help Samuel Hall to reach new audiences, raise its profile and advocate for refugees, migrants, displaced people and marginalized communities across the Global South.

Our research connects the voices of communities to changemakers for more inclusive societies. Samuel Hall is a social enterprise that conducts research, evaluates programmes and designs policies in contexts of migration and displacement. Our approach is ethical, academically rigorous, and based on first-hand experience of complex and fragile settings. With offices in Afghanistan, Germany, Kenya, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates, we are based in the regions we study.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Objective 1 – Digital & Social Media

● Day-to-day running of Samuel Hall’s social media channels – maintaining a content calendar, growing our audience and developing creative ideas in line with broader communications objectives
● Supporting the development and management of the Samuel Hall website including SEO
● Assisting with creation of internal and external newsletters
● Assisting with the creation and management of visual assets (including photos, videos and graphics)
● Advising clients and partners to inform digital communications and research dissemination strategies for projects

Objective 2 – Content & Marketing

● Working with the Advocacy and Communications Officer to run ‘Samuel Hall Stories’ – our soon-to-launch multimedia storytelling blog.
● Working with the Advocacy and Communications Officer to plan and run digital advocacy campaigns
Researching and developing case studies and powerful stories from our work to share on Samuel Hall platforms
● Preparing materials and briefing documents ahead of media, donor and networking meetings
● Support with conceptualizing creative events and execution
● Assisting with reporting and analysis of results

Vacancy Requirements

Required

● Excellent spoken and written English skills
● Social media proficiency – especially Instagram
● Ability to work with a truly global team – coping under pressure, working occasionally irregular hours and meeting tight deadlines
● Attention to detail
● Proactive and able to work under own initiative
● Creative, imaginative, and passionate about storytelling
● Appetite for knowledge and improvement
● Demonstrated interest in humanitarian and development work, foreign affairs, communications
● Confidence in networking, professional relationship-building and contributing to internal and external meetings

Desirable

● Experience in a communications role – 12 months preferred, but we are open to more/less experience applicants and happy to discuss opportunities with you
● Familiarity with any of the following tools: Mailchimp, Squarespace, Adobe Design Suite, Canva, Venngage
● Design skills and/or video editing experience
● Prior knowledge of research in contexts of migration, displacement, and international development
● Past experience specific to the Middle East and North Africa, Central/South Asia and/or the East and Horn of Africa
● Additional languages – French, Arabic (native / fluent)
