Title: Health Records Information Officer, Lwala

Location: Rongo, Kenya

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure completeness, integrity, confidentiality, safe storage, and timely retrieval of patient medical records.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and reviewing medical information and records (MI&R) policies as well as leading the medical records team in discharging essential duties of the Medical Records department.
  • Process patient admission and discharge documents.
  • Review records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations.
  • Compile and maintain patients’ medical records to document condition and treatment and to provide data for research or cost control and care improvement efforts.
  • Enter data, such as demographic characteristics, history and extent of disease, diagnostic procedures and treatment into computer.
  • Release information to persons and agencies according to Lwala policies and the national regulations.
  • Plan, develop, maintain and operate a variety of health record indexes and storage and retrieval systems to collect, classify, store and analyze information.
  • Manage the department and supervise clerical workers, directing and controlling activities of personnel in the medical records department.
  • Transcribe medical reports. Prepare statistical reports, narrative report and graphic presentations of information such as cervical cancer registry data, Obstetric ultrasound data etc. for use by hospital staff, research and learning team, and other users.
  • Consult classification manuals to locate information about disease processes. Compile medical care and census data for statistical reports on diseases treated, outreaches performed, other hospital minor/ major surgical procedures and use of hospital beds.
  • Develop in–service educational materials/ medical library.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Level of Education/Academic Qualification

A Bachelor’s degree/ diploma in Health Records Information Systems, or similar qualification.

Relevant Work Experience

At lease 3 year’s work experience in a busy hospital setup.
