Temporary Business Support Officer I Required

icipe seeks to recruit a Temporary Business Support Officer I (Communications Officer) in the BioInnovate Africa
Program. The position is tenable in Nairobi at the icipe Duduville campus. This is a nationally recruited position. A

Overall Purpose of the Job
The position holder will support implementation of BioInnovate Africa (BA) communications strategy for key activities
in 2021, which include publicity around BA Bioscience Innovation Bootcamp, BA Biobusiness Acceleration and the
2nd Eastern Africa Bioeconomy Conference. The staff will focus on BA social media in line with agreed campaigns to
increase stakeholder engagement and awareness of BA projects and the aforementioned activities. He/She is
expected to research and analyse social media trends, including social media web visitor data, to improve social
media presence and campaign efficacy around the activities.
Specific Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Work alongside the Communications Officer to gather newsworthy information on key BA and bioeconomyrelated activities.
  • Compile and edit stories from the BA project implementing partners.
  • Mobilise and cover BA events, including taking photographs, as well as captioning and filing them.
  • Track and monitor BA publicity, filing media publications and footage that cover BA events and supported projects.
  • Assist in streamlining BA social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flicker, and the website),and ensure content uniformity including graphics, and other elements within the pages.
  • Support uploading of content to the BA website.
  • Attend relevant BA meetings.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned/asked by the Programme Manager/Communications Officer.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree in social science, journalism, communications, graphics design or other related
    fields.
  • One year‘s experience in journalism, communications, graphics design or related field.

Core Competencies

  • Ability to write good articles.
  • Proofreading and editing skills.
  • Ability to design and layout artworks for Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials.
  • Photography and video shooting/editing skills.

Reporting

This position reports to the Communications Officer, BioInnovate Africa Programme.
