Purpose of role

Sightsavers are recruiting an experienced Research Associate to provide technical support to the Regional Research Advisor (Eastern, Central and South Africa, ECSA) for implementation of various research projects in health and inclusion across the region. The Research Associate will have a strong interest in health, education, disability and social inclusion research, and excellent skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods, protocol development, manuscript writing, ethics review processes and study coordination.

About the role of Research Associate, Kenya

The post holder will work with our global Research team and Kenyan Office to set up study processes and collect, analyze and disseminate data. Working with multiple stakeholders, government bodies and partner organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs). There will be significant travel throughout the project within Kenya.

  • Working with multiple teams to develop research protocols and data collection tools
  • Advocate the value of the project and gain buy in amongst Government partners and stakeholders to obtain the required approvals and ethics clearance
  • Collaborate with the Research team to develop training packages and materials, developing fieldwork procedures and protocols. Training and overseeing data collection in the field
  • Support analysis of data and write up of findings
  • Disseminate research findings with all relevant stakeholders in collaboration with the Research team

Knowledge, skills and experience for Research Associate Kenya

Essential:

  • Master level degree in a relevant discipline (Social Science, Public Health, Epidemiology)
  • Demonstrative experience conducting and managing quantitative and qualitative studies covering health, education, social inclusion and/or disability in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Strong team management techniques to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and projects
  • Working experience of data analysis using software STATA or similar, report writing
  • Proven track record collating qualitative and quantitative data and fieldwork supervision of staff
  • Ability to motivate and work within multicultural and multidisciplinary teams
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Experience of working in partnership with stakeholders, and collaborating institutions
  • Understanding of research governance and ethical principles particularly in relation to research with children and vulnerable people;
  • Able to travel locally and regionally
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
