Senior Communications Officer Required

Insights for Education is an independent non-profit foundation working to advance evidence and improve education for every learner. Its mission is to build resources for education leaders by synthesizing and translating an inclusive range of evidence, and to enable these resources to be used by those who make education happen by building bridges across knowledge actors, policymakers and practitioners.

Established in 2019 and registered in Zurich, Switzerland, with a team present across Zurich and Nairobi, the foundation is supported by a visionary co-investor collective and is growing partnerships across governments, agencies, NGOs, universities, businesses and foundations in Africa, Middle East, Europe, and North America.

Insights for Education (IfE) is a young organization but builds on years of thinking and is supported by a visionary Co-Investor Collective. This is an exciting opportunity to join a young, but grounded, foundation that aims to be a disruptor to the status quo in the education world, at a truly critical moment for the sector, with the need to reset education policies and compensate for the adverse impact that the pandemic could have on a generation of learners.

The Role
We are seeking an energetic and talented communications professional with exceptional digital and creative skills. Reporting to the Chief of Staff and Communications Officer, and working in close contact with the Program Director based in Nairobi, the Senior Communications Officer will support the development and implementation of the global communications strategy as well as communications in Kenya and throughout the region. This position will play a key role in growing brand awareness and reputation with key audiences (education leaders and influencers) by promoting IfE’s global public good assets hosted on Education.org and capacity-strengthening programs at country-level, with a first country program in Kenya.

What You Will Accomplish

  • Contribute to implementing an integrated and innovative communications strategy that supports IfE’s evolving goals
  • Write, edit, and design presentations, factsheets, annual report, publications, country and technical brochures, press releases, blog pieces, newsletters, case studies, and other external materials
  • Develop compelling and effective communication assets relevant to the website, newsletters, social media channels (stories, posts, pictures, video), and print materials
  • Lead community management of all social media channels to grow our audience and drive engagement with relevant communities and stakeholders
  • Responsible for daily update of website
  • Support country-level communications and outreach plans in coordination with key staff
  • Assist with PR and media relations activities, keep an updated media list, implement media monitoring and tracking
  • Develop briefing materials / content and coordinate logistics around events and speaking opportunities for IfE spokespeople, and identify relevant speaking opportunities
  • Proactively monitor & research conversations, trends and ideate breakthrough social activations, content inspirations and productions
  • Produce regular reports to track performance across channels and drive insights

Qualifications
Experience

  •  At least 7 years’ professional experience in communications / advocacy
  • Strong expertise in community management
  • Strong expertise in creative content production including digital assets (pictures, motion graphics, video editing)
  • Experience in storytelling and implementing advocacy or communications campaigns across channels with a strong digital focus
  • Comfortable working with remote teams and in multicultural environments
  • Preferred: experience working in corporate philanthropy, CSR, international development or education

  • Proficient with MS Office, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, WordPress and social media analytics tools

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in communications, political sciences, international relations or related field, or commensurate work experience
  • Excellent oral and written English language communication skills
  • Knowledge of French is a plus
