Role Purpose

Save the Children International Kenya Country, Dadaab office has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as Child Friendly Spaces Assistant. The role holder will have responsibility to initiate, oversee and support the implementation of child protection strategies and activities at the designated Child Friendly Centers. The role holder will be expected to oversee child friendly activities at the CFS and provide the required supervised plays for children at the center(s). He/she will also take lead in identification of cases for children with protection concerns. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Diploma in social work / social sciences or equivalent with preferably 3 year work experience in social work or with development-related organizations
  • Good communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge of community based child protection approaches, preferably including experience in participatory approaches.
  • Good IT skills including the use of Word and database software
  • Demonstrable ability to adapt to changing programme priorities and emergency priorities that may arise
  • Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Positive attitude towards community work with emphasis on the ability to learn from communities and support innovative approaches to problem solving
  • Commitment to Save the Children’s Child Protection Policy.

Desirable

  • Ability to adapt to different cultures
  • Understanding of local context and local language.
  • Experience of working in an insecure environment
  • Experiences in management of CFS center
