Project Officer – AKDN Eastern Africa COVID19 Response Partnership

The Position

AKF in partnership with the European Commission is currently implementing the COVID-19 response Programme across four countries: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Mozambique. This role will focus on the Kenya component of the programme. The overall objective is to improve systemic, gender-sensitive responses to overcome health, economic and social vulnerabilities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in Eastern Africa through diverse interventions with a direct target reach of 140,000 individuals (60% female), and 604,000 indirectly

AKF is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individual to support the direct implementation of the COVID-19 response programme in Kenya. Working under the direct supervision of the Country Programme Coordinator, the Project officer will based in Mombasa County. The Project Officer will support programme implementation and reporting, including the delivery of activities on time and budget. This position also will also be responsible for communication & visibility, & monitoring & evaluation of activities and interventions implemented by the partner Civil Society Organizations and other partners.

Contractual period – 12 months with a possibility of extension.

Roles and Responsibilities
The specific roles and responsibilities of the Project Officer will include

Programme communication and visibility
The project officer will lead direct delivery of COVID19 response programme communication & visibility activities in the 4 coastal Counties, Nakuru, & Kisii. The core deliverables will be:

  • Lead the implementation of the communications and visibility plan through developing monthly work plan with targets.
  • Work closely with the CSOs & partners in developing programme communication & visibility materials.
  • Develop and implement specific media engagement plan as informed by the objectives and targets in the communications and visibility plan.
  • Prepare media packs (press statements, opinion pieces, talking notes, pre recorded clips) and other forms of media briefs as informed by the key messages and targeted audience.
  • Providing communications advice to programme staff for meaningful media engagement.
  • Working with CSOs and partners to develop monitoring and evaluation plans.
  • Lead in development and dissemination of publications for learning

Programme monitoring, evaluation, reporting and documentation
The project officer will lead in the direct delivery of the programme monitoring, evaluation, reporting and documentation activities. Core deliverables will be:

  • Prepare monitoring plan of the CSOs and partner’s activities,
  • Receive and analyze monitoring reports from partner organizations
  • Undertake monitoring and prepare reports for information & decision making
  • Initiate communication on the findings of the monitoring process and follow up for corrective measures
  • Maintain up to date database on status of programme implementation for all partners
  • Track and prepare monthly, quarterly, semi-annual & Annual progress reports related to key indicators; including documentation of lessons learnt and success stories.
  • Prepare results-based mapping on monitoring & evaluation activities.

The requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 year’s practical experience in communication, Journalism, or Public Relations
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations or Mass Communication, diploma in monitoring and evaluation or its equivalent from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.
  • Designing and implementing communications and visibility plans.
  • Working with civil society organizations, networks, and coalitions.
  • Experience in media engagements
  • Relevant work experience in a comparable and relevant position with some degree of monitoring and evaluation.
  • An in-depth understanding of the coastal region context including community dynamics.
  • Flexible, professional with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities with strict deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and interact at all levels of the organization.
  •  Excellent MS Excel and MS Word skills
  • Committed to acting ethically and upholding safeguarding standards towards all staff volunteers, and beneficiaries of the organiZation.
  • Knowledge in working with donor funded programmes
