Organization Driver- GROOTS Kenya

GROOTS Kenya, in full stands, for Grassroots Organizations Operating Together in Sisterhood in Kenya. The organization is both grassroots women led and pro- poor focused, comprising of a network of over 3700 women-led community based organizations and self-help groups. It has a current geographical coverage of active work in 17 out 47 counties in Kenya. These include; Kiambu, Nairobi, Laikipia, Kilifi, Busia, Kakamega, Homa bay, Migori, Nyandarua, Kitui, Nanyuki, Muranga, Isiolo, Marsabit, Nakuru and lately Tana River county among others. GROOTS Kenya was founded in 1995 after the 4 UN Conference on women held in Beijing China, as a response to the inadequate visibility of grassroots women in development and decision making platforms that directly impacts them and their communities. Its genesis was demand driven and it was founded with the vision to build a strong local women’s movement which would bridge the latter gap through women led and community centered interventions that focused on sustainable development for grassroots communities. Further, these movements contribute to advocacy and are linked to like-minded platforms and organization in the region and global level for broad impact.

GROOTS Kenya has been instrumental in supporting local communities over the last 25 years to develop innovative strategies to inform policies and assist state agencies in the implementation of projects and programs; a) Community Response to HIV/AIDS Program, b) Women and Property Program c) Women Leadership and Governance Program and d) Community Resilience to Disaster and Climate Change where the REBUILD project will be implemented.

Purpose of the Position

To provide efficient and effective transport services during projects implementation across the counties.

Major Responsibilities

  • Operate GROOTS Kenya motor vehicle
  • Maintain accurate vehicle log-sheets in accordance with GROOTS Kenya regulations.
  • Ensure security of the vehicle on and off the road and safe keeping of all vehicle equipment and tools.
  • Keeping the vehicle neat, clean and in good mechanical condition.
  • Carry out routine checks on the vehicle cooling, oil, tyre pressure etc.
  • Preparing and submitting accurate monthly vehicle fuel and maintenance reports
  • Ensure safety of passengers and goods in the vehicle.
  • Report all maintenance needs of the vehicle to the management on regular and timely basis.
  • Monitor and report expiration and renewals dates of insurance covers, service dates and any other applicable services.
  • Adhering to all traffic and GROOTS Kenya safety rules and follow the transport guidelines.
  • Any other duty that may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education
  • Valid driver’s license and certificate of good conduct
  • At least 4 years driving experience with an NGO
  • Experience operating 4×4 vehicles
  • Basic training and certificate on first aid
  • Accident free record or if any the records show that they were not in any way attributable to the driver’s negligence.
  • Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and traffic patterns
  • Experience working in and knowledge of Tana River is desired.
