Leading House Africa – Research Partnership Grant

Leading House (LH) Africa is calling for applications for Research Partnership Grant I from advanced PhD students and early postdoctoral researchers affiliated with a Swiss Institution of Higher Education [1]. The goal of this instrument is to further develop, consolidate and expand relations and foster new collaborations between Swiss researchers and partners in Africa.

Proposals are expected from the following disciplines: i) Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, and ii) STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) including biological sciences and medicine. The call aims at awarding an equal balance of proposals from both areas.

Total Budget Available: CHF 250,000

Grant per Project: Maximum CHF 15,000

Project Duration: Minimum: 3 months; maximum: 10 months

Eligible Applicants (Lead): PhD students in their final year of study and postdoctoral researchers with a maximum of 2 years postdoctoral experience. (Lead applicants must be affiliated  with a Swiss Institution of Higher Education )

Eligible Partner Countries: All African countries, except Maghreb region and Egypt

Additional Third-Party Funding: Strongly encouraged

Submission Deadline: 26 November 2022

Review Process: 1 December 2022 – 26 January  2023

Decision: 31 January 2023

Earliest Project Start Date: 1 February 2023

PhD Graduate Programme: Call for Seasonal Schools in Switzerland to sponsor African participants (PhD students)

Leading House (LH) Africa, in conjunction with the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE), are calling for applications for the PhD Graduate Programme from organizers of Seasonal Schools in Swiss Institutions of Higher Education. The goal of this instrument is to promote research cooperation between Swiss and African PhD students of Higher Education Institutions in Seasonal School.

Total Budget Available: CHF 224,000

Grant per Seasonal School: Maximum CHF 60,000

Duration of the Seasonal School: Minimum 1 week

Eligible Applicant: Organizers of Seasonal Schools (e.g. Summer Schools) in or outside of Switzerland in  2023 with affiliation to a Swiss Institution of Higher Education

Target participants of the Seasonal School to be funded: Minimum 5, maximum 15 students enrolled in a PhD programme of an Institution of Higher Education in all African countries, except Maghreb region and Egypt

Additional Third-Party Funding: In-kind contribution by the Seasonal School is strongly encouraged

Submission Deadline: 28 February 2023

Review Process: 1 March 2023 to 31 March 2023

Decision: 28 April 2023

Earliest Project Start Date: 8 May 2023
