Organization Description

WeWorld is an Italian independent non-governmental organization working in Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid projects in 27 countries worldwide, including Italy. The NGO carries out 128 projects reaching over 2.4 million direct beneficiaries and 12.3 million indirect beneficiaries. Children, women and youth, actors of change in every community, are the protagonists of WeWorld projects and campaigns in the following fields of intervention: gender equality, prevention and contrast of violence against women and children, migrations, humanitarian aid (prevention, aid and reconstruction), food security, water and sanitation, health, education and learning, socio-economic development, environmental protection, global citizenship education and international volunteering.

Project Summary

WeWorld has been awarded a grant by Educate A Child (EAC) to identify and track “at high risk” (AHR) and “most at risk” (MAR) students, focusing on individual/family level risks factors and academic markers, affecting drop out. The ultimate Goal of the project is “at high risk and most at risk students affected by multiple risk factors in rural areas in Kenya (Migori and Narok Counties) and marginalized urban areas in Tanzania (Dar es Salaam – Temeke and Kinindoni Municipalities) are engaged and retained in a quality primary education.” WW’s strategy to address the identified risk factors respond to the project Theory of Change (ToC), that recognizes and states the role of the educational community – defined as all the relevant stakeholders who have/should have some kind of role/responsibility in children education and reflects the assumption/belief that children’ education is a collective responsibility, and not only parents, families and schools are accountable for ensuring children right to a quality education.

Scope of the Work:

The Project Assistants will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide support and participate in planning, budgeting and review of project reports.in compliance with the project design and timetable.
  • Support the development of work plans and ensure timely and quality implementation and monitoring of project activities to meet deliverables in accordance with standards, timelines, and budget.
  • Gather data at school and community level and use a dataset to track the changes
  • Support Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and learning (MEAL) through routine, accurate collection and reporting of information on project progress and achievements (including documentation of good practices and lessons learnt for further sharing with donors and other relevant stakeholders)
  • Ensure constant and good working relationship with the target schools and communities for proper monitoring and updating of information.
  • Participate in community mobilization activities while ensuring good working relationship with all relevant stakeholders
  • Participate in creating and maintaining comprehensive project documentation
  • Ensure that daily activities of information/data, are carried out according to
    We World procedures
  • Provide logistical support for the organization capacity development workshops, meetings and other forums.
  • Timely preparation and submission of quality reports of all related activities in accordance to donors’ requirements

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the Project Assistant may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in a relevant discipline e.g. Education, development studies or social studies
  • Excellent communication (writing and oral) skills and reporting skills in English
  • Computer skills, in particular good skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Monitoring and evaluation skills
  • Demonstrates integrity concerning NGO values and ethical standards
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability
  • Professional Experience: at least 3 years of experience working in a similar position with local/international organizations, government or relevant organizations in development projects
  • Strong problem-solving skills

Assets

  • Previous experience in gathering and maintaining data in a database
  • Previous experience in the target region
  • Previous experience in educational projects and supporting child protection activities
  • Ability to adapt to changing project priorities that may arise
  • Ability to communicate in local language
  • Valid driving licence (type B).

Reporting, Supervision and Performance Evaluation

  • The Project Assistant will report to the Project Lead officer and Project Manager with oversight by the Country Representative.
  • He/ She will work closely with the Project Lead officer, Project Manager, Admin and Finance officers and the Country Representative
