Job Vacancy: Creative Arts Teacher, Aga Khan Education Services

The position

The Aga Khan Academies are the only schools in Kenya offering the International Baccalaureate curriculum (IB) who are authorized to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP). With over 1000 students, the AKAN is a multi-cultural school with a variety of nationalities represented in our student and teaching faculty.

CREATIVE ARTS TEACHER
The Creative Arts Teacher will  be responsible for developing in each student, an interest in and the ability for creative expression in both visual and physical terms. They will encourage students to use skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations and to discover and develop talents of students in the field of creative art.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • To develop each student’s skills, understanding and confidence through practical creative expression and activities.
  • To encourage students’ creativity and expand their awareness and enjoyment of the Creative Arts at their appropriate level.
  • Developing and monitoring the implementation of the Creative Arts curriculum.
  • Assisting in development of budgets for projects and on-going activities for the Creative Arts department.
  • Ensuring he/she is up to date and well informed about developments and changes in the Creative Arts curriculum
  • Update of the Creative Art library and resources.
  • Observe and evaluate student work to determine student progress or to make suggestions for improvement while providing feedback throughout the lesson.
  • To assist in direct planning and supervision of student contests and arranging for Creative Art events i.e. Art Exhibitions, Musicals, PYP Exhibition etc.

The requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in fine Arts with experience in the other Creative Arts.
  • 5 years’ teaching experience in an international school.
  • Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration certificate.
