ABOUT THE PROGRAM
BOMA is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Program Coordinator on the newly awarded Livelihoods and Inclusion for Transformation Northern Kenya (LIFT NK) project. LIFT NK will lift more than ten thousand women and youth out of extreme poverty and coach them to establish and grow micro-enterprises that sustainably harvest and manage local natural resources, especially drylands forests. The three-year project (2022-2025) will be implemented in Marsabit, Samburu and Turkana counties and in the Kakuma refugee camp and the Kalobeyei Refugee Settlement.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Program Coordinator is responsible for providing effective and efficient coordination of The BOMA Project’s activities in Marsabit with support from the Program Manager in Samburu. Under the supervision of the Program Manager (PM), the Program Coordinator (PC) will coordinate implementation of LIFT Project in Marsabit, while representing BOMA in county-level engagements. S/he will coordinate with the LIFT Program Manager and keep the Program Director LIFT informed regarding county-level progress, results, and challenges under the Project.
The ideal candidate is experienced in delivery of community development activities. S/he is effective at planning and overseeing field activities in line with work plans and quality standards, managing relationships with county-level collaborators (state and non-state), providing reports on activities and promoting learning. S/he provides support and supervision to field-based staff to ensure that LIFT Project activities are implemented according to plan and with the highest integrity, proactively collaborating, learning, and adapting with BOMA colleagues.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Responsibilities:
- Support planning and coordinate implementation of activities under LIFT project.
- Facilitate collection and analysis of program data; capture and share lessons learned, case studies and success stories and best practices for project interventions.
- Support development, review and dissemination of project documents that capture best practices and lessons learned from the LIFT NK project to inform future project design.
- Support development and review of internal project reports.
Program Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the advancement and execution of BOMA’s Vision, Mission, and Values; ensuring that the same are clearly and well-articulated in BOMA’s daily work and among staff, partners, collaborators and participants/targets.
- Support the Program Manager in engaging with and securing acceptance of local leaders and the community about project roll out in Marsabit.
- Oversee, coordinate, and participate in implementation of project activities including grant distributions, trainings, and the establishment of savings groups, with support from the PMs.
- In coordination with the Program Manager, and with support from the People Department & Training Department, oversee training and performance of Field officers and Mentors delivering under the project.
- Oversee community entry and participatory targeting processes in each targeted community to identify and verify a pool of qualifying LIFT participants.
- Coordinate with the Program Manager and M&E team to ensure timely and quality targeting verification, collection of baselines and end-line data and monitoring activities via digital technology.
- Carry out regular field visits and spot checking and oversight to project sites to support Field Officers and Mentors, trouble shoot and communicate to Program Manager on any emerging issues for effective response.
- Collaborate with the Marsabit Cluster Office Administrator to ensure timely and adequate logistical arrangements for field travel on Project activities.
- Support the Program Manager to ensure timely, realistic, and high-quality project planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and learnings are captured.
- Ensure that all reports, both internal and external, are prepared and submitted in a timely manner
- Support the Program Manager in ensuring timely and accurate timesheet submissions by Marsabit staff spending time on the Project
- Collaborate with the County Cluster Office Admins on ensuring proper compliance with BOMA policies and procedures.
- Represent BOMA at county level meetings with stakeholder, including Government, where requested as delegated by the Program Manager or Program Director LIFT.
- In Liaison with the Program Manager, and with support from operations staff, oversee procurements, deliveries, and other logistical coordination for the Project in Marsabit
- Support program activities in Marsabit based on requests by Program Manager.
INTERNAL/EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Program Coordinator, Marsabit reports to the Program Manager, Samburu
- Program Coordinator works collaboratively with other members of the LIFT NK team, especially staff based in Marsabit and Samburu.
- He/she will work collaboratively with other implementing partner staff from Smart Regional Consultants.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
At least a Diploma in community development, Project Management or any other relevant field.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a similar position in Northern Kenya.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:
- Commitment to the mission of BOMA.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate field activities.
- Prior experience in coordination and remote management, including coordination of teams of staff working in remote field locations with intermittent or limited connectivity.
- Proven competency/experience in data collection and basic analysis.
- Strong project management skills including the ability to anticipate demand and manage multiple tasks and projects while meeting tight deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication and negotiation skills, in English, Swahili, and one of the languages spoken in Marsabit.
- Knowledge of poverty graduation approaches, livelihoods, women’s empowerment
- programs and experience in working in Northern Kenya highly desirable.
- Excellent computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet, remote conferencing applications. Experience using Salesforce a plus.
- Good report writing skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
