Job Title: Data Analyst – AECF

The Role

The role holder is expected to curate and analyze the existing data from across portfolio operations and feed information back into various levels of management decision-making. He/ She will work within an existing research team and provide analytical support to both internal and externally commissioned research based primarily on data generated from the portfolio.

The incumbent will work closely with the Portfolio, Impact, and Knowledge teams to support AECF’s impact measurement and management efforts. He/ She will play a critical role in the data management and analysis processes to ensure that AECF is measuring and reporting on its development impact accurately and effectively. The analyst will provide support for data collection, quality control, analysis, visualizations, and insights generation, all of which will drive better organizational and portfolio company decisions towards reaching impact targets.

The role will report to Manager – Impact and Knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review for fit for purpose and, if necessary, revise data collection and analytical systems and tools currently deployed in both the Portfolio Management and Impact Measurement departments.
  • Assist with the design of measurement frameworks for impact evaluations of AECF’s programmes specifically for quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis .
  • Support the collection of impact data from AECF’s programme teams, partner organizations, and stakeholders, providing support for timely, accurate and consistent reporting.
  • Conduct data quality checks, validation, and triangulation to ensure the accuracy and completeness of data.
  • Analyze and visualize data and produce critical insights that can easily inform multiple audiences across the institution via storytelling media and platforms, strengthening evidence to inspire storytelling efforts and cultivate relationships with key partners.
  • Support experimentation around data collection and analysis through new methodologies and tools.
  • Support the implementation of the Managing for Impact strategy and accompanying systems and tools to identify and maximize the depth and breadth of impact on the lives of people with low incomes from investments made by AECF.
  • Support externally contracted partners in the design and delivery of research.
  • Analyze and interpret value-adding data trends to help understand portfolio performance over time.

The Candidate

Suitable candidates should:

  • Possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mathematics, statistics or social science master’s with a substantial focus on data analysis.
  • Possess excellent communication and writing skills, with a keen ability to synthesize and present complex data in a simple, compelling, meaningful way (the ability to produce beautiful and top-notch data visualization is a plus).
  • Possess at least two years of experience in data analysis,
  • Possess experience working in international development and a deep understanding of the sector with a bias toward agribusiness, renewable energy and climate adaptation in Africa. Experience in using web analytics software and survey tools is a plus.
  • Be proficient in writing in the English language (French and Portuguese are AECF’s other operational languages).
