Job Opportunity: Statistician, African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC)
The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a leading Africa-based, African-led, international research institution headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. APHRC conducts policy-relevant research on population, health, education, urbanization and related development issues in sub-Saharan Africa.
APHRC seeks to recruit a Statistician for the DREAMS Impact Evaluation project. This project is an Impact Evaluation of PEPFAR’s DREAMS interventions to prevent HIV/AIDS among adolescent girls and young women in Nairobi’s informal settlements.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Participate in the pre-testing of data collection platforms;
- Data cleaning including conducting all the required consistency checks for project data;
- Document project data sets according to the Center’s guidelines on data documentation, archiving and sharing;
- Extract data and prepare analytical files;
- Develop template syntax files for research staff to use in creating various data sets;
- Perform basic and advanced statistical analysis of data;
- Assist in training other staff members on data analysis;
- Participate in scientific writing;
- Contribute to writing of technical reports; and
- Participate in proposal development including but not limited to sample size estimation and other design consideration.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Master’s degree in statistics or equivalent.
- At least 3 years’ post first-degree experience in high level quantitative skills -managing, analyzing and interpreting data using techniques such as multivariate, multilevel and or longitudinal analysis, preferably using STATA statistical software.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret results with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication (written and spoken) and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, online communication and referencing applications.
- Experience using Open Data Kit (ODK) software and Survey CTO is highly desirable.
This position is classified under Nationally Recruited Positions (NRP) Grade V in our scales.
