The Need
The Africa & Europe Regional HR Business Partner (HRBP) plays a crucial role in IJM Africa & Europe’s ability to carry out our mission. The HRBP will work closely with the Regional leaderships to set HR strategy that helps us carry out our regional and global strategic plan. As the first HR Business Partner in the Africa & Europe (AFREU) region, the candidate will build out regional HR processes, systems, policies, and support in an innovative way that aligns IJM’s ambitious vision with addressing real needs. All regional and national HR initiatives will improve performance, support spiritual formation, build staff health and resiliency, and ensure employee engagement. The HRBP will ensure global HR processes are implemented at the regional and national level, such as performance management and leadership development, as well as ensure adherence to IJM Global Standards and HR reporting. A key focus of the role will be ensuring the roll-out of IJM’s new global Workday system in designated AFREU Offices.
The HRBP is also responsible for enhancing IJM’s human resources by planning, implementing, developing, and maintaining employee relations, human resource policies, procedures, and practices in the AFREU region. This position will work in close partnership with HR leaders in AFREU’s Country Offices, who will provide the direct HR services to their national staff. The HRBP will provide direct recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and HR services to the AFREU Regional Office staff, located in various countries across the region. In addition, this position will support, encourage and motivate employees to ensure that the team is equipped to deliver IJM’s 2030 vision.
This position, will be required to be based at one of the IJM offices in region. Relocation benefits will not be included for this role. This position will report to the Regional Vice President of Strategy & Operations, Africa & Europe.
Responsibilities
- Establish HR as a regional-level service, including where necessary developing and implementing strategy, systems, policies, processes, communication, reporting, direct services, and other aspects of human resources in line with IJM global standards and policies;
- Proactively develop strategic partnerships with the senior management and HR Directors across the region, specifically providing mentorship and guidance to HR Directors in Country Offices;
- Develop and implement at the regional level, and ensure HR leaders implement at the country level, HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall organization vision and program goals that result in strong performance culture, high levels of employee health and resiliency, and increased employee engagement;
- Oversee the planning and execution of Talent Acquisition, establish, and maintain Performance Management, Training and Development to equip staff and create a collaborative working culture;
- Lead the successful implementation of IJM’s global Workday system in designated offices in the region;
- Monitor overall HR strategies, systems, tactics, and procedures and ensure legal compliance to nurture a positive working environment;
- Ensure excellent HR support directly to Regional Office staff and regional leaders, as well as ensure Country Office HR leaders provide excellent HR support to their national staff;
- Proactively enhance staff care and spiritual formation programs to build employee resilience and ensure well-being;
- Partner with Global People Support to participate in and provide feedback on global HR initiatives; and
- Develop a cadre of external support services to support various needs across the region.
Requirements:
Skills and Experience
- Master’s degree in human resources or organizational development;
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the HR field and minimum of 5 years in a leadership position;
- Extensive knowledge of regional labor laws;
- Ability to lead organizational transformation;
- Demonstrated skills in strategic planning and management for results;
- Experience leading a holistic HR program that addresses professional, spiritual, and mental health resiliency care programs across a large, diverse, and geographically dispersed team;
- Experience partnering with HR Directors of branch or country offices to ensure high quality and consistent human resources across multiple offices;
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills;
- Strong skills in active listening, negotiation, communication, and presentation;
- Experience with HR and people management software systems, in particular, Workday;
- People oriented and results driven;
- Ability to frequently travel to other offices within the region;
- Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships; and
- Fluent in English.
Travel
This position requires 10% travel (domestic and international) within the Africa and Europe region.
IJM is unable to provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must already have and be able to maintain the right to work in one of IJM’s office locations (UK, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, The Netherlands, Romania, Germany)
