Digital Media Engagement and Copy Editing Intern Needed

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Communications & Advocacy Officer, the Intern will be responsible for revising written digital/social media content to improve readability and fitness. They will also be in charge of monitoring the organization’s social media outlets specifically for the Youth Excel project. They will be required to be part of the social media campaigns planning, content creation and report on the performance of those campaigns.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the Communication officer in planning and maintaining TYC’s social media presence
  • Under the Communication’s Officer supervision, write reports on the effectiveness of social media campaigns for the Youth Excel project
  • Support planning and delivery of all the project workshops and training sessions
  • Participate in all the projects social media activities and public events
  • Understand key issues, get inputs, feedback and perspectives of the end users regarding the media literacy handbook
  • Participate in the workshops to share their findings and provide feedback and recommendations for the handbook
  • Support in content and material development, and follow up to improve on it
  • Ensure that TYC’s digital pages are engaging and adding value to our vision
  • Represent The Youth Café and the project publicly
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum educational requirement is at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. Having a degree in English, journalism, or a related field is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of how social media is developed, managed and used in brand reputation
  • Hands on experience in the use of technology to inform and influence people
  • Ability to remain detailed-oriented and focused when processing large amounts of text
  • Willingness to collaborate with a creative team of writers, graphic designers, and others
  • Eager to learn new things
  • Be proactive and persistent
  • Excellent report writing skills and a great team player
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems using innovative solutions
  • Being able to think visually and develop original communication agendas
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication, interpersonal and cross-cultural skills required
  • Spoken and written proficiency in English and Kiswahili and editing skills
  • Mastery of text editing skills ie. spelling, grammar and punctuation errors and ability to make constructive suggestions
