Master in Digital Communication Leadership (DCLead) Scholarships

The European Union sponsored Master in Digital Communication Leadership (DCLead) approaches the vast and recent field of digital communication from an interdisciplinary and international point of view bringing together advanced academic discussion with practical knowledge and skills.

The programme promotes a non-techno-deterministic, social and ethical reflection on digital communication for future leaders of the field.

The leadership-approach of this curriculum encompasses economic-managerial, technological and media and communication knowledge with social responsibility and ethical-cultural dimensions of digital communication.

The ability to combine these dimensions, to think together economy and social aspects, technology and culture, individual needs and society will be an indispensable precondition for future leaders in the field.

Content wise, the programme aims at delivering five core groups of competencies: Digital technologies and their developments; Policy and innovation; Business and management; Digital communication and culture(s) in Europe, and Ethics and social responsibility.

Objective

The core objective of the consortium and its programme is to form reflective future professionals to become critical and constructive experts in the field of digital communication, which pursue academic-scientific integrity and are aware of ethical principles and social values.

Programme Details

Teaching in the master programme is delivered following the Problem Based Learning (PBL) method; hence, students do not only learn theoretical concepts, but also the skills and competencies required for applying this knowledge.

Therefore, during the seminars of programme, students define problems within an area of examination and work with these issues theoretically, methodologically and empirically.

This programme also promotes on a global scale a European approach to research and teaching communication studies, which emphasizes social values.

DCLead is delivered by three partner Universities in the European Union, with the experts support of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), United States; Ghana Telecom University College (GTUC), Ghana; Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB), Brazil; Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia; Journalism School at Fudan University (J-School), China, and the University of Wageningen, in the Netherlands.

Many industry partners are also part of the consortium: they advise the board and host the students for internships.

Available Number of Scholarships

At least to 15 scholarships are available every year. The following scholarships are awarded:

  • Programme Countries E+ Scholarship grantees receive a stipend of 1000 EUR per month for the maximum duration of the 24 month, and 1.000 EUR per year for travel costs and 1000 EUR for installation costs.
  • The grant also covers the participation costs.

Only applicants who will submit all required documents will be eligible for consideration. The final decision lies with the Agency of Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Union based on the evaluation provided by a selection committee of the DCLead consortium.

Selection Criteria

Candidates must be:

  • Very good/outstanding study results (academic excellence) in the relevant study areas
  • Academic potential
  • Level of language skills
  • Motivation
  • Recommendations
  • Work experience and professional qualifications (if applicable)
  • Results of interviews (if applicable)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates of all nationalities are eligible for Erasmus + Scholarship, although 75% of these scholarship are Partner Countries scholarships.
  • Candidates are not allowed to apply for scholarship for more than 3 Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree Programmes for the same academic year.
  • It is possible to apply at the same time for an Erasmus + Scholarship and as self-funded students with one application. In this case, candidates are considered self-funded applicants, if they are not selected for an Erasmus + Scholarship.
  • Note that the E+ Scholarship does not provide a stipend to students while they are attending the Programme in their country of residence.

Candidates should note the existence of a 12-months rule: any candidate from a partner country, who has lived for more than 12 months in a programme country within the five years’ period prior to submission deadline, can only apply for programme country scholarship.

Erasmus+ Master Loans

Students that will be accepted for the DCLead programme as self-funded students, can consider applying for an Erasmus Mundus+ Loans offered by some financial institutions.
