The Opportunity
Save the Children International Kenya- Wajir Office, has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL) officer. The role holder will be expected to support the delivery of the drought humanitarian response in North Eastern Kenya. S/he will be expected to support Humanitarian MEAL system design and implementation, evaluations, MEAL budgeting, recruitment as well as support proposal writing and log frame development usually at a provincial or sub-national level. In most circumstances, the post holder will be expected to mentor and/or capacity building existing country programme staff. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Significant years of experience working internationally in humanitarian programmes
- Education to BSc/BA/BEng level in a relevant subject or equivalent field
- Significant experience of undertaking a MEAL related role in humanitarian
- Experience of, and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability
- Demonstrated strong monitoring and evaluation skills, including planning/participating in evaluations
- Experience of training and capacity building
- Some experience of representation and ability to represent SC effectively in external forums.
- Knowledge of institutional donors and experience of developing proposals
- Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- A high level of written and spoken English
- Commitment to the aims and principles of SC. In particular, a good understanding of the SC mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
- Preferably has ever worked or is currently based in Wajir
Desirable
- Language skills in English and Kiswahili
- Specific experience of managing BHA, ECHO and other major project
