Information, Communication & Technology Intern- Action Against Hunger-USA

Action Against Hunger-USA is part of the Action Against Hunger International network, which provides humanitarian relief in over 42 countries worldwide in the sectors of nutrition, health, water/sanitation, and food security. Action Against Hunger-USA, an independent NGO, currently manages operations in 8 countries: Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Haiti, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Action Against Hunger-USA has over $92 million in programs, and approximately 2000 staff based in in the various country offices and the three Head Quarter Locations of New York City, Washington D.C, Nairobi. Additional growth is anticipated.

Summary of position

The ICT intern will work together with the Regional ICT team to quickly develop Power-platform solutions for various departments. With guidance offered from the ICT team and the technical heads, the ICT intern will develop working solutions as directed by the team to perform business processes, handle and secure data management, design an easy to use, understand user interface and experience (UI & UX) while adhering to our branding guidelines, automations for common logical processes (with guidance from ICT) and other business unit data flows. The applications developed will then be rolled out

The ICT Intern will be responsible for;

1. Develop applications and automation functions support with guidance from the ICT team

  • Consult with working ICT regional team & business units at HEARO to develop quick apps for data management.
  • User training support and documentation of back-end and end-user guides to enhance organizational memory.
  • Implementing a data backup policy and related procedures across the engaged business units;
  • Suggesting possible improvements for system integration.

2. Provide Training and Documentation support users

  • Develop training materials for end users on the correct & proper use of the developed data management app.
  • Provide weekly updates and ad-hoc reporting of any anomaly or challenges.
  • Provide a map for future installations and configurations including permissions for adding new and exiting users.
  • Submit any repositories or systems image for each apps resources e.g. Github
  • Suggesting possible improvements on better training and knowledge sharing

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • First degree in Information and Technology or related field area.
  • At least 6 months hands-on in using the Power Platform environment (Power Automation, Power BI and Power Apps).
  • Strong hands-on experience on system admin, statistical, analytical & troubleshooting skills.
  • Microsoft 0365 suite experience is necessary with strong skills of working with different databases sources.
  • Good hands-on experience on various software applications Microsoft Office 2016 suite, Analytical tools (Power BI, Ona, SPSS, and Kobo etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Ability to provide or recommend solutions to problems and attention to detail.
  • Flexible to assume additional responsibilities; proactive approach to work and able to work with minimum supervision.

  • Ability to compile, organize, prepare and maintain an assortment of records, reports and information in an effective manner.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for long periods and to concentrate on work, including typing, and turn out heavy volumes of work accurately, within short time frames under stressful situations in the context of a moderately noisy office with many interruptions. Must be able to proofread own work accurately so that only minor corrections are needed on an infrequent basis.

Benefits

The Intern will receive incentives of KES1,500 for every day worked.
