We are seeking to fill the Position of Temporary Public Health Officer (4months) forUSAID Tujenge Jamii Project to be based in Nakuru & Laikipia.

About USAID Tujenge Jamii Project

Tujenge Jamii is a five-year USAID funded project that brings about well-tailored interventions in the select high priority counties in Kenya; Baringo, Laikipia, Samburu and Nakuru to build the capacity of the county governments health departments to manage high-quality HIV care and treatment, family planning/reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, adolescent health (FP/RMNCAH), nutrition, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services and make them accessible to those in need.

Scope of work

The Public Health Officers will be responsible for coordinating Public Health activities required for coordination of COVID 19 Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) through vaccination and disease surveillance and response in Nakuru &Laikipia,

Key responsibilities

Carry out Covid 19 vaccination coordination through demand creation, improving access and retention n the vaccination cascade.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Enhance COVID-19 Update through public awareness and community mobilization
  • Deploy mobile vaccine delivery units that will go to markets, churches, and other places
  • Monitor Adverse Events Following Immunizations (AEFI) monitoring
  • Scale up of on-site
  • Defaulter tracing and follow up to ensure people complete their vaccination schedule as per national guidelines
  • Enhance COVID-19 Update through public awareness and community mobilization
  • Conduct mobilization for mobile vaccine delivery units that will go to markets, churches, and other places people gather.
  • Monitor Adverse Events Following Immunizations (AEFI) monitoring

  • Defaulter tracing and follow up to ensure people complete their vaccination schedule as per national guidelines

Qualification and Experience

  • Diploma in either Environmental/ Health Science or Public Health Inspection or Public Health or Diploma in Environmental Health Science or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Applicants for the Position of Public Health Officer I must have a one (1) year Public Health experience.
  • Valid Public Health Officers and Technician registration council certificate.
  • Proficiency in Computer applications.
  • Must be registered by the Public Health Officers and Technicians Council (PHOTC).
  • Holder of a valid practicing License from the Public Health Officers and Technicians Council (PHOTC)
  • At least 2 years working experience in Public Health Officer.
  • Knowledge of Infection, Prevention and Control in work places
  • Experience working with Ministry of Health systems on COVID 19 is an added advantage
  • Good report writing and analytical skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision
