Vacancy Announcement: IGAD Liaison Officer- Save the Children International

This role requires a strong ability to deliver specific objectives as outlined in the IGAD SC Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This includes serving as the focal point for IGAD SC initiatives under the strategic partnership and work collaboratively with all supported IGAD Institutions/Directorates/Departments to facilitate implementation and reporting on SC-funded programs and policies of joint IGAD-SC strategic interest. The incumbent will be provided office space within the IGAD Secretariat as part of the IGAD’s organizational structure. The position will be fully funded by SC to further consolidate the strategic partnership. The complexity of the project requires actively seeking and building relationships and influencing others, as well as the ability to operate with direct and indirect management lines. They will also work closely with member focal points who manage the IGAD relationship including SC Norway BD & technical colleagues.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is an eight-member state Regional Intergovernmental Organization (RIGO) of the African Union Commission (AUC) in the Horn of Africa (HOA) that comprises the countries of Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda, with a combined population of over 260 million people. The mandate of this community is to lead and execute what the Member States are unable to achieve as individual countries; through its regional convening power. The main objective of the IGAD Secretariat is focused on analysis of regional issues, coming up with regional policies and strategies and coordinating their implementation mainly in food security and environmental protection, economic cooperation, regional integration and social development, peace and security for the partners’ mutual benefit.

In order to be successful, you will bring/have:

Essential/Desired:

  • University degree qualification in political science, international relations, international economic, law, public administration or other related.
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, international relations, humanitarian affairs, conflict resolution or related fields;
  • Demonstrable experience working with Child Rights organizations, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), international or inter-governmental body will be an added advantage;
  • Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, developing clear strategic vision, and ensuring buy in from stakeholders;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong ability to inspire participation and building productive, collegial relationships;
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Commitment to Save the Children values, including willingness to abide by and enforce the Child Safeguarding and other relevant policies.

Contract duration: 1 year

Location: Regional Office – Nairobi
