Regional Programme Manager, Sub-Saharan Africa – Finn Church Aid (FCA)

FCA is seeking a Regional Programme Manager, Sub-Saharan Africa to work as part of the Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers team (Helsinki or in Sub-Saharan Africa – FCA office). The manager leads the implementation of the Network strategy and oversees, develops, and manages the Network’s program, operations and partnerships in Sub-Saharan African and supervised staff in Africa.

Main areas of responsibility include:

  • Lead the implementation of Network strategy, program and partnerships in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Contribute to global strategic renewal and global program development, with focus on regional portfolio.
  • Oversee and guide all Network projects in the region throughout the project cycle (including planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and reporting). Take part in project implementation by building strategic relationships for the projects and consortium with external partners. Lead the strategic and content dimension of the project activities, validate the quality of the work and activities and ensure project delivery.
  • Ensure that FCA policies and guidelines are followed and overseeing financial, contractual and procurement processes in close collaboration with SOPM.
  • Develop strategies and models for Network’s national and regional level engagement and operations in the region and potential new areas of engagement.
  • Oversee and advise on the Network regional working group.
  • Act as a focal point for international and national partners in the region, such as UN agencies, embassies and delegations, national governments and for new international and national level partnerships
  • Lead fundraising efforts and donor engagement in Sub-Saharan Africa together with the Resource Mobilization Manager and the program staff
  • Represent the Network in key donor and partner meetings and conferences in Sub-Saharan Africa region
  • Lead the regional team and supervising program staff.

Competence, experience, skills, knowledge needed

  • MA degree in international relations, development studies, political studies, human rights or other relevant discipline
  • At least 5 years of professional related experience with previous manager level experience
  • Strong experience in programme and project management and development
  • Experience in managing/recruiting/inducting staff, team leadership and acting in leadership positions in international settings
  • Strong thematic expertise and experience in peace building and conflict transformation and working in conflict-torn environments
  • Excellent understanding of program and operational procedures, including programme development, M&E, HR, administration, finance and security
  • Strong experience in finance and administration of projects and global program
  • Excellent skills in analytical thinking and professional writing
  • Fluent in oral and written English, working knowledge of Finnish, French is an asset.
  • Proven problem solving and strategic planning capability with creative skills.
  • Excellent communication, inter-personal and negotiating skills and experience in working in multi-cultural environment
  • Experience in high-level advocacy work internationally
  • Excellent organizational skills and initiative to proactively manage and lead work.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.

The position is permanent, with six months’ probation period, starting as soon as possible. The compensation is based on FCA Compensation System and depends on prior work experience.
