Disruption of Immunization Services
Immunization services have been disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Most countries are yet to resume their immunization campaigns. The lack of provision of vaccines against contagious diseases has seriously placed many people; especially children at a risk of diseases.
Diseases like polio, measles and yellow fever, if not immunized against results to massive outbreaks that can prove difficult to control.
In the midst of the current pandemic, COVID-19, donor agencies are issuing more warnings on the rising number of diseases outbreak. Majority of the countries missing out on the critical immunization services; Pakistan, Yemen and DRC, have reported serious measles outbreak. If not effectively put under control, the outbreaks will result to massive deaths especially in children. Therefore, the agencies are further urging the countries to resume their immunization campaigns even in the midst of the pandemic in order reduce diseases prevalence and loss of lives.
