Since the 1970’s the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) has been engaged in critical global health initiatives around the world. In September 2009, the Maryland Global Initiatives Corporation (MGIC) was formed as a nonprofit affiliate of UMB to help support the implementation of UMB international programs. UMB through MGIC, currently has offices in Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia. MGIC’s administrative operations support the research and clinical programs of the School of Medicine, Institute of Human Virology (IHV) and Center for International Health, Education & Biosecurity (Ciheb) and other UMB entities.

MGIC Kenya is working in partnership with CIHEB Kenya to support the Government of Kenya in expanding HIV service capacity and surveillance through a host of initiatives funded under the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)..

Job Description

Smoking Cessation Study

Smoking Cessation Study is a 5-year US National Institute of Health (NIH) funded clinical trial on smoking cessation in Nairobi County. The goal of the study is to assess the main effects of pharmacological and behavioral interventions as well as comparing the additive effects of those two treatments.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for maintaining and updating study databases by entering various types of information.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To enter data from hardcopy paper formats to various study databases
  2. To clean and ensure completeness of electronic and hardcopy records
  3. To support with data verification
  4. To generate reports and outputs on study performance metrics
  5. Keep record of work completed

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATION

Diploma in computer related courses or equivalent

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT

  1. Proven experience as data entry clerk
  2. Basic statistical skills
  3. Basic understanding on clinical research data management

DESIRABLE QUALITIES

  1. Excellent analytical skills, presentation skills and problem solving skills
  2. Be able to prioritize tasks and meet set deadlines.
  3. Be able to work well in a team
  4. Great attention to detail
