Amref Health Africa was founded in 1957 and has since grown to become the largest African-based international health development organization; currently implementing more than 140 programs, directly reaching more than 12 million people across 35 African countries. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, Amref Health Africa has offices in eight countries in Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi, South Sudan, Zambia and Senegal.
Amref’s work in each country responds to local needs and priorities strengthen existing capacities in communities to take control of their health and strengthen the local health systems. In additional eleven advocacy and fundraising offices are located in Europe and North America. In the spirit of Ubuntu, partnership and networking are key elements of Amref Health Africa’s approach. Amref has a staff complement of over 1,500.

Through our fundraising offices in Europe and North America, we have a large group of donors that are supporting Amref’s important work. In order to grow our constituency, the fundraising offices need compelling and persuasive communication products for several of their fundraising channels such as direct mail, telemarketing, digital, direct dialogue, etc.
The Global Fundraising Development Office (GFDO) is a part of Amref’s HQ and has been set up to support our fundraising offices in Europe and North America. GFDO is currently looking for a dynamic fundraising and communications professional to join the team.
JOB PURPOSE
To coordinate the development of high-quality online and offline fundraising communication materials that can engage and inspire our (potential) donors. The position is line managed by the Global Fundraising Director and works closely with the fundraising and communications colleagues in Europe, North America and Africa and in partnership with the Global Communications team in Nairobi, Kenya.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Proactively develop an inventory of stories, graphics, photography and/or video the fundraising offices need.
- Creating a clear annual content collection calendar that is shared across Amref communications offices for planning and support at country level.
- Spearhead the collection of relevant information to develop engaging fundraising communications content in partnership with the Communication Managers at the African Country offices, our subsidiaries and with the HQ Communications teams.
- Manage and catalogue Amref’s digital multimedia library (Asset Bank) for use across the organization.
- Manage film and photography production, budget and accreditation of international media teams coming to Africa for content collection.
- Train and support staff in African Country offices to collect relevant materials.
- Establish and manage a network of local filmmakers, photographers and journalists who can support with gathering content, working closely with Communication teams on the ground to ensure alignment with media regulations in countries.
- Work across the brand to keep Amref’s fundraising communications consistent and support the implementation of ethical storytelling guidelines.
- Support and encourage sharing of knowledge and information across Amref teams.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- University degree related to Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum seven (7) years of relevant experience as a communications professional, preferably fundraising communications.
Skills, Knowledge and Competencies
- Creating a clear annual content collection calendar that is shared across Amref communications offices for planning and support at country level.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to develop critical paths and workback plans and work collaboratively with peers and colleagues to deliver on them.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively to prioritize competing demands and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Capacity to build and maintain excellent relations and to work effectively in a multicultural environment respecting diversity, working with a diverse range of seniority levels and geographic markets.
- Exemplary written and verbal communication skills, and demonstrated ability to write compelling and emotive stories that demonstrate the impact of giving.
- The ability to take our often complex health interventions and communicate them in a compelling, approachable and persuasive way.
- A passion for (ethical) storytelling.
- Critical thinking with strong information-gathering skills.
- Strong affinity with Amref Health Africa’s mission for better health.
- Fluency in English and willingness to travel.
