The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and non-profit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 35 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Kenya since 2005, where we assist refugees and displacement-affected communities in Dadaab, Kakuma, Kalobeyei and Nairobi through protection and livelihoods activities to enhance their self-reliance and expand opportunities for a dignified life. DRC provides both humanitarian assistance and longer-term development support to respond to the needs of communities affected by acute crisis as well as those in protracted displacement situations.
Overall purpose of the role:
Provide technical support and be the main point of contact for IT related issues in DRC Kenya Dadaab field office.
Responsible for planning, development and implementation of hardware, software applications, programming & systems network and integration of a management information system or enterprise network.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor DRC Kenya Dadaab office links utilization to ensure optimum services availability
- Liaise with the Country MIS Officer regarding issues/faults in a timely manner
- Oversee the Dadaab Office computer networks to ensure that they function smoothly
- Install all new hardware, systems, and software for networks.
- Install, configure, and maintain network services, equipment and devices.
- Support administration of servers and server clusters located at the field remotely
- Plan and support network and computing infrastructure.
- Perform troubleshooting analysis of servers, workstations and associated systems
- Document network problems and resolution for future reference
- Monitor system performance and implement performance tuning.
- Oversee software and network security.
- Monitor bandwidth utilization amongst the users
- Create and manage online and server-based databases
- As required, provide networking and internet services upgrade solutions
- Perform backups as scheduled and ensure data integrity
- Ensure antivirus program is up-to-date
- Manage user accounts, permissions, email, and anti-virus, anti-spam
- Maintain system performance and react pro-actively to issues to maximize uptime
- Continually perform preventative maintenance
- Assist with system upgrades and rollouts
Experience and technical competencies:
- At least 2 years’ experience working in an IT support environment
- Demonstrable experience in virtualization and cloud computing
- Experience working with networked computing systems/windows TCP/IT networking environment
- LINUX server administration skills
- Knowledge of and competence in Microsoft operating systems and Office suites
- High level of hardware/software troubleshooting experience
- Quick in learning new systems
- Able to work under harsh and extreme conditions, good judgment and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrate a customer-focused, motivated and pro-active approach to your work
- Excellent communication skills, and fluent in spoken English and Kiswahili
- Strong planning, organization and problem-solving skills with ability to work hands-on, independently, and within team in a difficult work environment.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or other related field from a recognized institution
- Certification in computer networks (CCNA, N+, etc.)
Languages:
- Fluent in English

Conditions:
Contract: 1-year contract with possibility of extension, subject to funding and performance. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council terms of employment for National staff.
Availability: January 2022
Duty station: Dadaab (qualifies for RnR and accommodation)
