Job Vacancy: Agriculture and Farming Facilitator

Position Summary:

The agribusiness facilitator will be tasked to train the young persons (m/w) on agribusiness as well as getting internships and placements for them under “Go Blue” Project – Skills Development (TVET), Matching and Value Chain Development

Required Practical Skills & Knowledge

Animal Husbandry: New and productive approaches for rearing Dairy cattle, poultry farming, and apiculture. New farming technology that help make livestock more productive and profitable.

Crop Farming: Growing various fruits, vegetables, grains and nuts. Understanding of climatic and salinity conditions of the region.

Cocopeat: Production techniques, marketing and value chain establishment

Location: Kilifi

Duties & responsibilities:

  • Recruitment of trainees for the course
  • Train established young farmer on agricultural related practices and its value chains
  • Train young farmers adopt new farming practices like aquaculture and aquaponics farming etc.
  • Train enrolled farmers on value addition of the farm produce to reduce post harvesting losses and improve on their shelf life
  • Participate in mobilization activities to ensure that center meets the targeted number of participants within timeframe
  • Prepare classroom timetable and training calendar for trade
  • Deliver practical and theoretical curriculum of the trade
  • Conduct internal assessment for trainees (m/w) during and after training
  • Invite industry players for guest lectures
  • Arrange Field visits and exposure visits for trainees(m/w)
  • Develop social media posts and case studies for project visibilities
  • Mobilize best performers to give testimonies at different events in the project.
  • Assist trainees (m/w) in attending interviews and extend support in post placement assistance
  • Network with trade specific industries
  • Maintain track record of learning and keep the database up to date
  • Keep the MIS updated
  • Provide reports as and when required
  • Participate in placement drives
  • Deliver learning through online tools available like LMS
  • Conduct parent’s meetings
  • Offer agricultural extension services to the trained people as a handholding support for sustainability
  • Offer Mentorship to the trained people on new farming practices like aquaculture and aquaponics farming

Required Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agriculture Education and Extension, Horticulture, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering, Agribusiness Management, Animal production or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in food security and related sectors
  • Working experience in implementation of Food Security Projects or related community-based projects;
  • Experience in local value chains development will be an added advantage
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook).
  • Good presentation and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Good facilitation skills
