2jiajiri-GIZ Scholarship

The main objective is to empower and equip unemployed and out-of-school youth to grow micro enterprises by providing them with technical skill training opportunities as well as up-skilling and certifying existing micro-entrepreneurs who wish to move their business from the informal to the formal sector.

The Development Concern

With an expected surge in economic growth, the East African region requires a highly skilled work force and access to capital to realize the growth in economies. The youth and SMEs participation play a crucial role in the economy hence the need for acquisition of skills that will ensure employability or self employment.

Currently, the skills acquired by today’s youth are not adequately matched with the needs of market place. Therefore, employment opportunities exist but cannot be filled because there is a shortage of workers in certain competencies such as in plumbing, electrical works and mechanics.

Addressing the Concern

The KCB 2Jiajiri program seeks to address the concern highlighted above through the following:
Provision of technical skills scholarships for out of school youth aged 18-35 years and existing micro entrepreneurs
