Consultant Needed for End of Project Evaluation

We are looking for someone to work closely with us to test a new method of evaluation. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, and with lots of facilitation experience, this person will work with a group of key stakeholders to facilitate a participatory evaluation using video for a deaf youth employment project implemented by Deaf Empowerment Kenya (DEK) and supported by Deaf Child Worldwide (DCW) June – July 2021, 20 days

We are looking for a consultant to facilitate a participatory process with a Core Group of up to 10 people, made up of DEK and DCW staff, deaf youths and other key stakeholders. The consultant will also work with 10 deaf youths to generate content for the video, and to also facilitate screening/dissemination events with wider groups of deaf young people, employers, vocational institutions representatives, and other stakeholders from the project. The consultant will be supported by the International MEL Advisor at Deaf Child Worldwide to learn more about Participatory Video and how it can be used.

The evaluation is expected to take place through a combination of both face to face and online activities. Adjustments are likely to be required according to COVID-19 restrictions and safety implications. We are looking for applications from individuals who have an interest in trying new and innovative participatory approaches in evaluation. Whilst experience in the method would be an asset, we are looking for someone who is willing to learn with us. We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Excellent facilitation skills, with experience of delivering training and facilitating discussions,
    such as Focus Groups. Online facilitation skills would be an asset.
  • Ability to motivate and lead a group, with experience of harnessing a group dynamic to create
    an open space for sharing and learning.
  • Experience of working with young people in youth engagement projects and activities, or similar experience.
  • Experience of carrying out or being involved in end term organizational and program evaluations.
  • Experience of working in partnership with organizations, including Disability People Organizations (DPO).
  • Experience of or an interest in using Participatory Visual Methods, such as Participatory Video or Digital Storytelling would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Disability related issues and Deaf culture would be an asset.
  • Proven ability to present findings and recommendations in an engaging and visual way to both organizations and beneficiaries.
  • Based in Kenya, preferably Nairobi.
