Social Workers Needed

St John’s Community center, a Faith Based Organization of the Anglican Church of Kenya Nairobi Diocese, is implementing a DREAMS project under the leadership of World Vision in the USAID funded TUMIKIA MTOTO program. The project targets to reduce HIV risks in Adolescent Girls and young women (10 – 24 years) in Kiambu county and selected Wards of Kamukunji SubCounty in Nairobi. We are seeking to recruit competent Social workers (3)
Key Responsibilities:
The project is a HIV and Gender based Violence prevention intervention aimed at empowering young women to be Determined Resilient Empowered AIDS free Mentored and living a Safe life. The purpose of the Social worker is to provide social work services to the adolescent and young women.

The key tasks to be performed include, enrolling and supervising Girl mentors as they do enrolling of the clients, assessing their risk factors, making case treatment plans and executing them promptly while providing health information in small groups( safe spaces);
Coordinating and supervising the provision of trainings to the Clients by using the approved training modules; Leading in Case management that involves the clients’ significant others including their male companions; conducting follow-up visit, managing referrals to access needed health, reproductive health, economic strengthening, skills training, education or legal services and updating client records. Position holder is responsible to ensure accurate data on the Clients and activities is submitted to the Data Assistant in a timely manner.

Officer will also attend technical and data review meetings to support in accounting for progress made, making
programming decisions and will also prepare monthly project reports. Will also be mandated to represent the organization in community meetings to advocate for better services for the Adolescent girls and Young Women at risk of HIV and GBV.
Qualifications required:

  • Kenyan citizen, female aged 25-35 years who has a strong drive to empower young girls and women from the urban informal communities
  • University degree or Diploma in Social work, Counselling psychology or related field. It will be essential if the person has done diploma or certificate courses in HIV/AIDS management, Counselling psychology, and is computer literate.
  • A holder of a TOT certificate in the core training modules such as Gender based Violence norms, Healthy choices for a Better future, SYNOVUYO, SHUGA 2 and My health My choice will have added advantage
  • The degree holder should have 2 years working experience in social work, and a Diploma holder should have 3 years working experience at a community setting. Candidates with 1 year experience in running DREAMS activities will be preferred.
  • Have excellent skills in interpersonal relations, interviewing, active listening, social perceptiveness, clear speaking, critical thinking, Coordination, report writing, creative in complex problem solving and decision making, able to advocate for clients, managing referrals, counselling and mentorship.
  • Fluency in both written and oral English, Somali and Kiswahili
