About the Role
We are seeking an IT Application Support and Data Analyst to help design and manage applications utilized in projects throughout the SSA region. You will assist operational staff in the management and analysis of their data and provide exceptional technical support to regional teams through responsive and efficient data reporting and IT support. The position will be based in any of our SSA offices in Ethiopia/Kenya/Rwanda/Zimbabwe, with frequent travel to the regional office in Nairobi, Kenya. Please note that we will be reviewing applications on an ongoing basis and reserve the right to close our vacancies early. This is a consultancy position with level of engagement being approximately 3 days in a week.

Job Purpose:
EDT are looking for a qualified Application Support and Data Analyst to help design, support and manage functional programs and applications used in the SSA region for multiple offices and projects, and to assist operational staff in managing and reporting on their data.

Job Objectives:

  • To gain a full understanding of the data collected by EDT services in providing their contracts
  • Work with Global IT to advise EDT staff on the format and media on which to store data, and to assist in structuring data so that it may be best utilised
  • Using tools including Microsoft Excel and PowerBi to design reports that inform operational colleagues on the performance of the contracts they manage.
  • Support and configure third-party data collection tools as required
  • Responds to all IT support requests within the stipulated timelines and providing 1st and 2nd Line Support for application systems within the region
  • Work with third-party suppliers and the global IT service to ensure that applications programmes are fully supported, maintained and updated.
  • Achieve and maintain a thorough knowledge of and adherence to established Education Development Trust policies and procedures .
  • Assist Regional IT Officers in providing technical support to colleagues in the regional office, such as building and configuring laptops and resolving printing issues
  • Cover the responsibilities of the other IT Officers as and when required
  • Plans for and delivers IT training to SSA EDT staff in collaboration with specific country IT staff
  • Work with the Global Data Security Officer to ensure that data is stored and transferred to EDT data security rules and guidelines.

Applications Responsibilities:

  • Develop a deep understanding of the services provided by services in the region and understand how applications and data can fully support their objectives
  • Configure software on laptop computers and hand-held devices such as mobile handsets and tablets to enable field staff to collect and report on data
  • Create standard Microsoft Excel templates for the collection and reporting of data ensuring that the integrity of data is maintained.
  • Using tools including Microsoft Excel and PowerBi to design reports that inform operational colleagues on the performance of the contracts they manage.

  • Any other reasonable duty as may be assigned that is consistent with the nature of the job and the safe and effective operation of the organization
  • Providing support to EDT applications, escalating and managing issues to Global IT and third-party suppliers as required.

Scope:

  • Working hours according to the requirements of the location supported
  • Flexible working will also be required including some out of hours work
  • Occasional travel with equipment may be necessary to other sites within EDT
  • Provision of remote support to international offices as required

Person specification:

Knowledge

  • BSc/BA in Computer Science or relevant field.
  • Demonstrable Experience of data analytics, including reporting and data visualisation
  • Prince2/ITIL awareness, relevant certifications would be a bonus but not a requirement
  • Experience of working on software implementation projects.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in data analytics, reporting, application support and configuration
  • Experience of working in an IT Support capacity in a medium or large organisation
  • History of working to service level agreement targets

Skills

  • Excellent Communication skills at all levels through all platforms
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team
  • Ability to train end-users in application and use of software packages
  • Excellent customer service and telephone skills
  • Can think creatively and problem solve.
